Season
Year-round — best spring and fall; falls flow strongest in spring
Toquerville Falls is the rare desert waterfall — a multi-tier cascade in the middle of Southern Utah that is almost entirely inaccessible by road. Reaching it requires a dirt bike, ATV, or capable 4x4, which is exactly why it has become one of the most rewarding destination rides out of Hurricane, Utah. The trail climbs onto the Gould's Rim mesa system northeast of town, then descends through rocky single track and a rutted 4x4 road to the falls themselves. The round trip is approximately 8 miles of riding each way from the most common staging area, with technical rocky sections that make this an intermediate-to-advanced ride. The falls flow year-round but are most impressive in spring when snowmelt from the high country feeds the creek.
The most common staging area is off Interstate 15 exit 27 (Toquerville), about 20 minutes northeast of Hurricane. From there, follow the La Verkin Creek drainage up toward the Gould's Rim area — signage is limited, which is why we strongly recommend taking a guided ride or downloading the GPX file we provide with every rental. Plan for a half-day round trip with time at the falls.
The ride to Toquerville Falls is best understood as a destination journey rather than a loop. You climb from the staging area up onto the Gould's Rim mesas, cross a network of connector trails that interconnect Smith Mesa, Little Creek Mesa, and Flying Monkey, then drop down into the La Verkin Creek canyon to reach the falls. The descent to the falls has rocky, rutted sections that require careful line choice. Most riders spend 30–60 minutes at the falls before retracing the route back.
A multi-tier waterfall in the middle of the Southern Utah desert — photos do not do it justice. Plan for time off the bike to explore.
The climb onto Gould's Rim and the mesa riding that follows is its own reward. Dramatic long-range views across the Virgin River valley.
Multiple shallow creek crossings on the descent to the falls add to the adventure factor. Keep momentum, pick a clean line, and enjoy.
Advanced riders can add the Rattlesnake Gulch trail on the return to make this a full-day loop instead of an out-and-back.
Toquerville Falls is not a beginner ride. The technical rocky descent, limited signage, and creek crossings require comfort on the bike and confidence on rough terrain. If you are an intermediate rider who has not ridden this area before, we strongly recommend booking a guided ride for the Toquerville run — the route is hard to find and the terrain is unforgiving if you miss a line.
The Husqvarna FE450 is the right tool for this ride — the extra power matters on the climbs out of the creek bottom, and the WP XACT suspension handles the rocky descent into the falls well. The FE350s is the right choice if you want a lighter bike for the creek crossings.
Only in a capable 4x4 with low range, and the road in is rough enough that most truck owners turn back. Dirt bike, ATV, or UTV is the practical way to get there.
Plan for a half-day round trip from Hurricane — roughly 8 miles each way plus 30 to 60 minutes at the falls. Advanced riders who add Rattlesnake Gulch on the return can make it a full day.
Signage in the area is limited and the technical sections are unforgiving, so we strongly recommend a guided ride if it is your first trip out there. Every rental includes GPX files if you prefer to self-navigate.
